CAN, CANopen and SAE J1939 Protocol Overview
A training session for candidates requiring in-depth Knowledge on the CAN, CANopen and J1939 Protocols.
CAN Physical and Data Link Layers are covered quite extensively in the morning. The afternoon
is dedicated to the CANopen and J1939 Application Layers.
The agenda consists of:-
- Introduction to Industrial Control Networks
- CAN protocol basics including:
- Waveform patterns and understand the electrical signals
- Clock speed / baud rate
- The content of a CAN message
- Message priority
- Signal packaging in CAN databases (e.g. Motorola and Intel formats)
- CAN chip register addressing
- CANopen Introduction including:
- CANopen application layer
- Application profiles
- CANopen physical layer
- Configuration
- CANopen tools
- Demonstration of CANopen network
- Viewing CANopen message exchange on a CANopen bus analyser
- J1939 Introduction including:
- J1939 Protocol basics
- OSI model layers of the J1939 specification
- J1939 software stack overview
- Targeting different microcontrollers
- Stack configuration
- J1939 Development, Diagnostics and Analysis
Duration: 1 day
Pre-requisites: Basic knowledge of data communications and industrial controls.
Location: At the Warwick Control offices in Warwickshire. Custom training can be carried out at customer sites if required.
